A restaurant has closed just 12 months after it first opened to customers in Corby last summer.

RBW opened its doors to diners in the town centre last June, serving a selection of ribs, burgers and wings.

It was one of three restaurants, alongside Prezzo and Nando’s, which opened as part of the new cinema complex.

RBW was a new concept for the South African Spur group and the Corby restaurant was the first in the UK.

The Corby restaurant had a graffiti-inspired mural created by street artist John McKeown, which included references to Corby’s steel production days in the old Stewart & Lloyds works, the Sundew dragline, Rockingham Speedway and Corby Cube.

A message on the Spur RBW website now says ‘all good things must come to an end’ and it states: “Spur RBW has permanently closed.

“Thank you for your loyalty and patronage.”

It appears there may already be interest from another restaurant hoping to take over the unit.

A spokesman for Corby Council said: “We are disappointed by the news that RBW has unfortunately closed down.

“However, we understand that there is already interest from another restaurant to occupy this space and we await further details of this.”

Several customers of Spur UK, which also had a chain of steak and grill restaurants in the UK and Ireland, have been posting messages on its Facebook page asking about the future of its restaurants.

One customer asked why its UK branches had closed and Spur UK replied: “Unfortunately the businesses weren’t viable any more.”
