Football writer and author Dan Freedman, creator of the Jamie Johnson series of children’s books, had pupils at Lodge Park Academy, Corby, spellbound with his tales of soccer stars and World Cup action.
Dan visited the school on Tuesday, June 25, to give a talk to Year 7 students and run a creative writing workshop.
Wendy McCabe, the school’s library manager, said: “He told pupils that he had been a football fanatic as a child and went on to talk about his career as a journalist.
“He also spoke about his career as an author and how he used his experience of players to develop his characters.
“In the creative writing workshop Dan gave the pupils an introduction, just one sentence, and they had to go on and write their own stories.
“They did some fantastic work and they were really mesmerised by Dan’s talk. He was an inspiration.”
Dan was the Football Association’s editor from 2000-2007. He travelled to two World Cups as an official member of the England World Cup party.
