West Glebe Park in Corby welcomed a total of 126 runners at the inaugural parkrun event in the town.

Runners from as far afield as London, as well those from Corby, Kettering and Northampton set off at 9am on Saturday (September 21) on the two-and-a-half lap course around the park.

The first to finish the 5k route was Isaac Ackers from Corby Athletic Club and the first female was another of the club’s athletes, Ellie Welch.

A spokesman for parkrun said: “Special mention should be made of the 16 volunteers, who forfeited their normal Saturday morning lie-in to help out with course setting, marshalling and supporting the runners and their families. They did a fantastic job.”

Runners of any ability can register online, turn up at the park and run for free.

Runners, walkers, children and those running with buggies or dogs, are welcome.

Corby parkrun starts and finishes near West Glebe Park pavilion at 9am every Saturday.

Northamptonshire now has two parkruns, at Corby and at the Racecourse, Northampton.
