A team of Corby-based paramedics are hoping to be a roaring success when they take part in a charity dragon boat race to raise funds for Lakelands Hospice in the town.

Named the Paddlemedics, the crew from Corby Ambulance Station is taking part in the Rotary Club’s Nene Valley Dragon Boat Race at Wicksteed Park on Sunday, September 1.

Teams will compete over a 200-metre course on the lake at the park and each crew will have rowers, a drummer and a helmsman.

Sarah Norman, team captain for the Paddlemedics, said: “We are hoping to raise as much money as possible for the charity and would be grateful for any sponsorship.

“We are proud to be raising money for such a great local charity.”

Proceeds from the dragon boat race will go to Lakelands Hospice in Corby, Cransley Hospice in Kettering and other good causes supported by the Rotary Club.

Last year the event raised a total of £17,500 and organisers are hoping to do as well this time.
