A Corby youngster is seeking sponsorship to enable him to compete in the 2016 World Kickboxing Championships.

James English, 10, has been kickboxing for five years and was chosen to join the England squad just two years after trying the sport.

Last year he competed in the Irish Open and impressively got to the quarter-finals on his debut.

But James’ dad Gary says he needs sponsorship and funding to achieve his goals and beyond.

He said: “In the last couple of years he has entered in a number of tournaments locally and nationally.

“When he was seven years old he was chosen join the England squad and train with a number of British and world champions.

“The Irish open was held between March 5 and 9, 2015, which is one of the biggest tournaments in the world with teams from many countries including USA and with more than 4,000 fighters entering of all ages.

“Out of the BCKA England team James was one of nine fighters who managed to get to the quarter-finals on his first appearance.

“He would like to achieve his goal in attending the World Championships, which is being held in Portugal in October.

“However, if he doesn’t achieve the money that is required, he would still be looking for support for the rest of the year and next year’s Irish Open, which is held every year in Dublin.”
