Corby chef and borough councillor Eyusuf Chaudhury has been crowned the curry king of the region.

He won the East Midlands best chef title at the Bangladeshi Caterers Association awards ceremony in London.

Mr Chaudhury is the chef at the family-run takeaway Cardamon, in Gainsborough Road, Corby.

He said; “I would like to thank all my friends, family and colleagues for their best wishes and support.

“I’m delighted that I have won this best chef award. In the late 1950s my father Al-Haj Kasa-Ur-Raja Chaudhury worked really hard in this industry and the award is his legacy.

“I’m so proud that I was representing my home town of Corby at the awards.”

The ceremony was held at the Park Plaza Hotel, London, and was hosted by television presenter Tasmin Lucia-Khan.

Mr Chaudhury and his family moved to Corby in 1980 from London and opened their first Indian takeaway in Rockingham Road. He opened the Cardamon restaurant in 2002.
