Artists in Corby are being offered studio space to develop their creative talents at the town’s new art gallery.

For just £12.50 a week they can rent one of the new workshops which have been built at the Rooftop Art Gallery, giving them a place to work 24 hours a day if they want to.

But anyone interested will have to apply fast, as there are only four of the nine studios left to rent.

Hannah Tracey, who lives near Corby town centre, has already taken space and is moving in.

She recently returned to the town after working in the Amsterdam Dungeon.

Hannah, who has a degree in special effects design, is planning to launch her own consultancy.

She said: “The workshops at the Rooftop Gallery are fantastic. It would cost hundreds of pounds a month to rent a similar space in London.

“Apart from the space and light being so good, there is the added value of being able to work as part of Corby’s artistic community and the opportunities that offers for people to collaborate.

“I’m delight with the workshop. It’s in a brilliant location and we have access and security cover 24 hours a day.”

Author Paula Boulton, who worked with a network of Corby artists to open the new gallery in the former library above Queen’s Square, said: “We are inviting any artist who is working away in their spare bedroom or garden shed to come and look at the workshops.

“Because people can have access 24 hours a day they are ideal for shift workers.

“The workshops are available for painters and sculptors, working in all mediums.”

If you are interested in renting a workshop telephone Paula on 07983445273, or call in at the gallery for more information.
