YOUNGSTERS are invited to get arty in a new competition.

Children are wanted to take part in the the mayor of Kettering’s young artists competition which starts today.

Split into three age categories, the winners will be selected by local artists Chris Prout and Zandra Powell and their work will be displayed within the Alfred East Art Gallery.

Winners in each category will also receive an arts voucher from Colemans.

The three categories are under sevens, where the challenge is a colouring competition, and ages seven to 11, where the task is to design a picture with a sporting theme fitting in with this year’s Olympics.

The final category, over 11s, will be asked to design a banner for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee being celebrated this year.

Councillor Margaret Talbot, mayor of Kettering, said: “I am pleased to be working with the Alfred East Gallery for the Mayor’s Young Artist’s competition.

“There are many local artists and this is an opportunity for the young people to show their artistic talent.

“Thank you Coleman’s of Kettering for donating the prizes.

“I look forward to seeing all the artwork displayed.”

Entry forms can be collected from the Alfred East Art Gallery, in Sheep Street, Kettering.

They must be handed back in to the gallery by Wednesday, February 3, ready to be judged.

The winners will be announced on Thursday, February 9.
