A Market Harborough shopper bagged more than she bargained for when she discovered a rare Golden Nose – one of only 12 in the entire country – hidden amongst the millions of red noses available from Sainsbury’s stores across the UK.
Jodie Burrell, who lives in Harborough, found one of the Golden Noses at the Market Harborough branch of Sainsbury’s, in St Mary’s Place, on Friday.
Now, Jodie and a friend will win a special trip to the big Comic Relief bash this Friday at the London Palladium.
Jodie will get to spend time at Dermot O’Leary’s Day of Dance, tour BBC Broadcasting House, meet celebrities, see her name in lights on the BT Tower and enjoy the full-blown celebrity treatment at the palladium for the huge night of entertainment that the BBC is organising for Red Nose Day.
On top of all that, Jodie will also win top-notch accommodation at the Every Hotel in Leicester Square and receive a golden goody bag rammed with presents. The Golden Nose promotion – similar to the golden ticket idea from Charlie and the Chocolate factory – is one of the “greatest, most golden gifts Comic Relief and its very generous friends and supporters have ever bestowed, creating an experience Jodie will never forget”, said a press release statement from Comic Relief.
Twelve Golden Noses have been hidden in surprise bags across the land, with nine of them at Sainsbury’s stores.
I can’t believe I found a Golden Nose!Jodie Burrell
A delighted Jodie said: “I can’t believe I found a Golden Nose!
“I was blown away when I opened the surprise bag at home to find the gold Karate-Konk character nose in there.
“I’ve always been a huge supporter of Comic Relief and I am really excited to visit the London Palladium on Friday for the event.”
Each Golden Nose comes in a special surprise bag, giving customers the excitement of not knowing which of the nine normal red noses they are getting.
Jodie only discovered the extra special Golden Nose when she got home and unpacked her shopping.
Pete Ward, the Comic Relief manager for Sainsbury’s, said: “This is the first time ever that the red noses have been sold in surprise bags.
“Together with Comic Relief, we thought we could have a bit of fun with them by hiding these extra special Golden Noses amongst the millions.
“I’m delighted Jodie is so excited to have won gold, and I’ve no doubt she will have an extremely memorable experience when she comes to London to enjoy her prize.”
For any Golden Noses found after midday today (Wednesday), winners will be offered an ‘equally fantastic alternative prize’, said Comic Relief.
Last week, Sainsbury’s announced that the Market Harborough store was one of the top Comic Relief fundraising stores in the entire country.
Town staff, with the help of customers, raised £13,000 for the cause in 2011 and 2013.
Other Golden Noses have been hidden at Oxfam shops, on the Red Nose Day online shop and via the Schools Deposit Scheme.
Sainsbury’s is the supermarket partner of Comic Relief and has raised more than £84million since the partnership began in 1999.
This year, Sainsbury’s is aiming to beat the £11.5m raised during the last Comic Relief appeal, in 2013.
Stores stock a full range of Red Nose Day merchandise including noses, wristbands, trolley tokens, nail wraps, umbrellas and cake toppers.
