A coffee shop has become the first business in a town to offer customers a refund on their parking in a scheme to boost trade.
JavaJava coffee shop, off Sheep Street, in Kettering, is offering customers refunds on parking costs if they stay at the town’s London Road car park, provided they spend a certain amount in the shop.
Kettering Council asked retailers in the town in the summer whether they would be interested in taking part in a refund scheme, but little interest was shown.
Last week, JavaJava decided to offer its customers discounts. Owner Andrea Peel said: “We are very passionate about raising the profile of this beautiful area of the town.
“This initiative is aimed at getting people to spend a longer time in Kettering either shopping, maybe going to the library or meeting friends for coffee or lunch and, at the same time, helping them to mitigate the cost of doing so.”
If customers spend £1.50 for two hours at the London Road car park, then they will get a full refund if they spend at least £7.50 in the coffee shop.
If people spend £5, they will get £1 off their ticket, while £2.50 spend gives people a 50p refund.
People need to hand over their JavaJava receipt and parking ticket for a refund.
Despite Kettering Council saying it will decide whether to take the scheme forward at the end of June, the authority said it is still under review when contacted this week.
