Staff at The Co-operative food store in Wellingborough are aiming to hit the right note with unpaid young adult carers today as the store launches a year of fundraising for its new charity of the year, Carers Trust.

Employees will aim to raise money throughout the year for the charity which formed in 2012 when The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and Crossroads Care came together.

To mark the launch, staff at the branch are tuning into a “Rock Around the Clock” theme – an acknowledgement to the round-the-clock nature of the challenges facing young carers in the UK.

There are an estimated 7,800 unpaid carers in Wellingborough and the Carers Trust aims to offer help, advice and respite breaks to people in this situation.

This year, the Co-operative’s 100,000 staff across the country aim to raise £5 million to transform the lives of the UK’s unpaid young adult carers.

The campaign will be supported by stores countrywide.
