Sections of a major road near Kettering are to be closed for several days from next Monday for resurfacing work to be carried out.
The A6003 between North Kettering Business Park and the Oakley Hay roundabout will be closed, in two phases, to allow both sides of the carriageway to be repaired as part of the £34m A43 Corby link road scheme.
The northbound carriageway will be closed first on Monday, November 11, to the early hours of Wednesday, November 13, from the North Kettering Business Park to the Oakley Hay roundabout.
It is expected that the southbound carriageway will be closed from the early hours of Wednesday, November 13, and reopen on Friday, November 15.
However, the council says that the second phase will be dependent on progress and the weather.
Cllr Andre Gonzalez De Savage, county council cabinet member for strategic infrastructure, economic growth and public protection, said: “We realise the road going public have been inconvenienced over the last couple of months, but we do need to get this piece of works completed before the winter sets in.
“We also realise it’s not ideal having to close the carriageways but it is necessary for safety reasons for both the public and the workers.
“The A6003 is a very busy road, although diversions will be signed there are bound to be times when congestion is unavoidable especially in the peak periods.
“I would ask all road users for their continued patience throughout the duration of the works and we need everyone to play their part in keeping both drivers and the workers safe.”
The A43 Stanion roundabout will be re-opened prior to the A6003 being closed.
Access to and from the North Kettering Business Area will be maintained from the A43/A14 at all times.
The following diversions will be in place during the work:
During phase one, Vehicles travelling north from Kettering should use the A43 northbound (Stamford Road) through Geddington, then the A427 towards Corby, and take the A6014 (Oakley Road) and back towards the A6003 at Oakley Hay roundabout, Corby.
The south bound carriageway of the A6003 will remain open during this phase to allow access from Corby to Kettering and the A14.
During phase two, access will be maintained at all times, to residents/business within the closure.
Vehicles that would normally travel south down the A6003 between Corby and Kettering should use the A6014 (Oakley Road) towards Corby, the A427 towards Weldon, and the A43 southbound (Stamford Road) through Geddington and back on to the A6003 at Kettering.
The northbound carriageway of the A6003 will be open during this phase to allow access from the A14 and Kettering to Corby.
