A night club which closed nearly two years ago has officially reopened its doors – as a church.

The Open Door Church has been based in Montagu Street, Kettering, since the autumn, in the building once home to Rehab night club.

Kettering mayor Jim Hakewill officially opened the church’s Eden Centre, which has been significantly redecorated, last week.

Adrian Horner, one of the leaders of Open Door Church, said: “This is a key event in the life of the church and of the building. We are delighted to be here and want to bring good to the street, the town and the region.

“It’s good to see a place that was painted black bringing so much light.”

Kati Reeve, who brought her children to the event, said: “The Open Door Church have bought a disused club and turned it into something useful. I think it’s a marvellous idea. Better that the building is used than just sitting empty especially when the building has history like this one does.”

The opening also featured an array of singing and dancing from the Starlight Dance School.
