The Church of England is preparing a bid to run the first primary school which will be built on the new Kettering East housing development.
The school would be open to all pupils living on the estate, regardless of whether their family had a church or faith background or not.
Pupils from other areas would not be admitted unless there were unfilled places.
Miranda Robinson, of the Peterborough Diocese, said: “Church of England schools were first established over 200 years ago to serve their community.
“We’re building on that tradition and the school will offer a broad and balanced curriculum in an environment where spiritual dimensions of life are respected.”
Public meetings to discuss the proposal will be held next month.
