A fish and chip shop which has been in the same family for three generations is tasting success after being given a prestigious award.
Pisces of Thrapston has joined the fish-frying elite after being handed the Fish and Chip Quality Award.
The National Federation of Fish Friers, the trade body that represents the nation’s fish and chip shops, runs the scheme as a way of raising standards in the trade.
Each shop has to go through a rigorous inspection by an assessor who examines presentation, cleanliness, staff training, equipment, frying and sales skills and the quality of the cooked product. Pisces has been run by three generations of the Smith family.
Manager Adam Smith said: “I am delighted to have achieved this prestigious award. A lot of hard work goes into running a high-class shop and producing a top-notch product.
“This award stands us out above the rest and gives customers confidence in what they are purchasing. My customers tell me they haven’t tasted fish and chips like this for years. It’s how they ‘used’ to remember it. And so it should be; the high quality has remained the same since my grandfather’s first shop.”
