Pupils from a village school are celebrating after a second successive success in an athletics championships.
All 69 Cottingham Primary School pupils from Key Stage 2 (aged seven to 11) took part in the Welland Valley Athletics Championships, competing against six other schools from Brigstock, Weldon, Gretton, Corby Old Village, Wilbarston and Stanion. Events included 60m and 80m sprints, 400m and 600m runs, relays, triple jump, long jump, speed bounce, quoits and target throwing.
Headteacher Emma Tayler said: “The children worked really hard for the event, coming along to practice at Athletics Club every Tuesday and Saturday morning, come rain or shine. It has helped create a real sense of teamwork and every single child did their very best - we are so proud of them.
“I’d also like to thank the parents and teachers that helped to train the children for the event, as we couldn’t have done it without them.”
Cottingham Primary School is fast gaining a reputation as a sporting force in the local area, with awards for football and rugby also under their belt.
