An allotment holder has spoken of his anger after his plot was broken into, vandalised, and two of his chickens were killed.
Andy Smith, who has a plot on Margaret Road Allotments, Valley Walk, Kettering, said there has been a problem with vandalism on the site for the past couple of years but he was shocked at the latest incident.
He said: “These people are deranged, there’s something wrong with them. I don’t understand why anybody would do that.
“We’ve had problems here for a long time, but this is an escalation.”
The incident happened overnight on Sunday and Monday, June 16 and 17, and Mr Smith had turned up to tend his plot the next day to find the chicken coup destroyed.
Mr Smith discovered that two of his chickens were dead, and the rest were roaming around the allotments.
He said that he has re-homed the other chickens, adding: “It’s very annoying.
“There are a lot of people who have left the allotments because they have just given up with all the problems we’ve had.”
Mr Smith has urged any witnesses to contact the police, because he is worried the problem will continue.
Police have confirmed that they are investigating the incident and have asked witnesses, or anyone who has any information, to contact them on the 101 number.
