A team of chess players is celebrating after remaining undefeated for a whole season.

In doing so, Kettering A won Division 1 of the Northamptonshire Chess League (the Silver King) for the first time in 25 years.

The league went down to the final round of games when Kettering’s victory over Rushden A meant they edged out their nearest challengers, Peterborough. Team captain Chris Jones was thrilled with the win.

He said: “The league was really competitive and we’re delighted to have come out on top,
especially after so many years. Thanks to everyone at the club who has supported the team this season.”

The club meets every Monday evening at the Toller Church rooms in Gold Street.
