Board members have said they are ‘disappointed and dismayed’ at the council’s decision to terminate their contract to run Wellingborough’s Castle theatre.

The Castle (Wellingborough) Ltd has been running the theatre on behalf of Wellingborough Council since 2011.

But following an extraordinary meeting of the council on Tuesday, councillors took the decision to terminate the contract in six months.

In light of this, the board of trustees for The Castle (Wellingborough) Ltd held a meeting last night (Wednesday) and have since released a statement.

Rae Levene, chairman of the board of trustees for The Castle (Wellingborough) Ltd, said: “Whilst the board is disappointed and dismayed at the decisions arrived at by the Borough Council of Wellingborough, it accepts that it would appear to have been as part of the democratic process and it will continue to work with the council to achieve a satisfactory outcome for the people of Wellingborough and its creative heart that is The Castle theatre.”
