A cake in the shape of a smiling helicopter was the centrepiece of celebrations to mark the first anniversary of a Wellingborough charity shop.

The Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance shop in Market Street invited customers to join the fun on Saturday (February 2).

Assistant manager Nicki Broughton said: “We were the charity’s first furniture and bric-a-brac shop and we have had an amazing first year. We’ve been successful and really busy.”

The cake, donated by Bespoke Cakes by Etam, of Wellingborough, was the first prize in a raffle held by the shop. Other prizes, donated by local companies, included gift cards, hair vouchers and passes to see The Cobblers.

The shop is managed by Nigel Reading and there are two paid drivers, Pete Cleverley and Chris Lovas, as well as a team of 14 volunteers.

It opens Monday to Saturday and is appealing for donations of furniture and bric-a-brac. Collection and deliveries can be arranged by calling 01933 275554.
