An animal charity is appealing for donations of food and bedding to help dozens of hedgehogs who have been brought to their door.

Animals In Need in Little Irchester has currently got 42 hedgehogs in its care.

The small creatures include injured ones, one bitten by a dog which then had to have stitches at the vets, one with a badly broken leg which has been amputated and a few with lungworm.

A number of hedgehogs have also been picked up during the day which are lethargic and dehydrated.

Annie Marriott from the charity said: “We currently have 42 hedgehogs in our care and more arriving daily.

“We are desperate for old towels and tinned chicken or rabbit cat food in jelly.”

Any donations will be used to help rehabilitate the hedgehogs and help them get back up to a good weight and clear from parasites.

Food or bedding can be dropped off at the charity based at Pine Tree Farm in London Road, Little Irchester, any day before 3pm or people can call 01933 278080 for more details.
