The family of a former Wellingborough councillor who died from cancer are organising a third ball in his memory after raising more than £50,000 at the previous events.

The first Andrew Bigley Charity Ball was held in May 2010, when Mr Bigley was in remission.

It raised £30,000 and the money was split between the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, where he had his surgery, and the oncology unit at Northampton General Hospital.

His wife, Vicky Bigley, said: “Sadly the cancer recurred and Andrew lost his battle on October 29, 2011, at the age of 48.

The donations from his funeral went to the Three Shires Hospital in Northampton, and the Andrew Bigley family and friends room was opened.

“We organised another ball in December 2012 on what would have been Andrew’s 50th birthday, where we raised an amazing £28,000.

The money went to the oncology unit at Northampton, where a new treatment room was opened.

“We are now organising a third ball which will be at the Aviator hotel in Sywell on Friday, December 5. All proceeds will go to Cransley Hospice.

“The band SuperFly will be playing, there will be an auction and three-course meal.”

Tickets are available on the Andrew Bigley Charity Ball Facebook page, or from Warwicks in Wellingborough.
