A tree-planting ceremony was held to mark the new status of Kingswood Secondary Academy in Corby.

The school, which has more than 1,200 pupils from 11 to 19, is now sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust.

After the tree-planting, Barry Day, chief executive of the trust, welcomed staff and pupils to the organisation.

He said: “We are committed to the highest of standards, as are the staff at the academy, and we all expect outstanding levels of achievement for our pupils.

“The school has already made significant progress since it was placed in special measures in November 2012 and that is down to the outstanding leadership of the principal Scott Hudson and the hard work of his staff and pupils.”

Martyn Turner, an executive principal from the trust, will support the progress of the new academy.
