Pen Green Centre for Children and Families in Corby has been selected by the Department for Education to become a national teaching school.

It is one of only 60 schools in England to be given teaching school status in the latest round of applications.

Introduced in 2011, teaching schools are all rated outstanding by Ofsted. They work closely with partner schools to provide initial teacher training and professional development opportunities for teachers.

Centre director Margy Whalley said: “Pen Green has been providing local regional and national training for more than 16 years. We are especially proud that 56 per cent of staff at Pen Green Centre were initially parents with children in the nursery who have gone on to become outstanding professional early years educators. We are looking forward to welcoming students to Pen Green to enjoy the benefits of studying in our research and training base.”
