An animal charity is appealing for cash to help cover the cost of an operation for a rescued horse.

Cally was saved by volunteers at Brook Farm Animal Sanctuary from being shot but she needs an operation on her spine which will cost more than £3,000.

The operation means Cally, who is a nine-year-old thoroughbred bay, can live the remainder of her life at the Raunds sanctuary free from back pain.

A spokesman for Brook Farm said: “Cally is a lovely natured horse and if it wasn’t for the sanctuary, she would have been shot the very day we took her in.”

To make a donation call 07758 728265 or visit www.brook-farm.org.uk.

The charity is also holding an open day from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, May 4.

Admission is £1 and free for accompanied children.

There will be stalls, a raffle, tombola and barbeque as well as the chance to meet many of the rescued animals at the sanctuary.
