These pictures show the dramatic moments a driver smashed into the central
reservation of a road near Kettering, spinning 360
degrees – before carrying on .

The footage, captured by motorist Tom Cafferty’s dashboard-mounted camera, also shows the vehicle cut dangerously in front of a lorry as it travelled on the A14 towards Rothwell on Wednesday, November 19.

Mr Cafferty was driving along the dual carriageway at about 70mph when he was suddenly undertaken by the vehicle.

It then ploughed into the central reservation barrier, did a complete spin, and carried on its eastbound journey from the direction of the Catthorpe interchange.

Mr Cafferty followed the car at a distance for three minutes, during which time it continued to be driven erratically.

Eventually the car, a white hatchback, pulled over into the hard shoulder next to Junction 4 for Rothwell.

Mr Cafferty handed the footage over to the police, and also uploaded it to YouTube – where it has so far racked up almost half a million views in just seven days.

It has also made headlines across the world.

Mr Cafferty told the Telegraph he couldn’t believe what he had seen.

He added: “It certainly took me by surprise. The most surprising thing was he kept on going afterwards. You know it’s not a normal accident when he carries on driving.

“We did get quite close at the end – I could have quite easily been hit myself.”

Mr Cafferty, a cable engineer from Kettering, had installed the dashboard camera after being wrongly blamed for a small bump he had with another vehicle – ensuring any future insurance quibbles would not simply be his word against someone else’s.

He added: “I do more than 40,000 miles a year and I have not witnessed anything like that so close. He made it seem like I was standing still, and I was doing 70mph.

“He must have come at about 100mph and I thought he was going to hit the car in front. He was coming at a ridiculous speed and then hit the barrier. I don’t know how he drove off.”

Northamptonshire Police have said a man has since been arrested.
