Politicians have met a Government minister to lobby for dualling of the A45 between Stanwick and Thrapston.
MP for Corby and East Northants Andy Sawford and leader of East Northamptonshire Council Steven North met the Minister for Roads Robert Goodwill last week to press the case for the dualling of the busy road.
The Department for Transport told Mr Sawford it was investigating accidents on the roads following six serious recent incidents.
Mr Sawford said: “Dualling the A45 is a high priority in the East Northamptonshire area to support the economy and improve journey times for local residents.”
Mr Sawford and Cllr North highlighted the impact of local growth, such as new distribution companies, new housing and potential new retail at Rushden Lakes, telling the minister that this makes the dualling of the road even more critical.
The minister promised to look seriously at the case and to take up the matter with the Highways Agency, which is currently reviewing the business case for road improvement schemes across the county.
Cllr North and Mr Sawford agreed to take up the matter at a county level with Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership which has a role in determining priorities for local road improvement.
