A call has been made for action to protect Weldon’s status as a village amid fears it could be engulfed by expanding Corby.

Corby councillor Rob McKellar has put forward a motion which will be debated at a meeting of the authority tonight.

It states: “With Corby continuing to expand at a rapid pace, residents in Weldon, which now directly abuts Corby, are growing concerned that their village will become entirely swallowed up by its much larger neighbour within a few short years.”

Major expansion at Priors Hall Park is already under way, and planning permission has also been granted for the new Weldon Park development.

Cllr McKellar said: “Weldon has suffered more than its fair share of development. The village is proud to have Corby as its neighbour but the two must remain as neighbours and not be merged.”
