CUSTOMERS tucked into cakes at the opening of a new Boots store.

The branch at Phoenix Parkway, Corby, was declared ready for business when Kevin Birch, the company’s UK divisional director for the eastern region, cut the ribbon on Wednesday. The store, which will create 20 new jobs for the town, welcomed customers eager to have a look round.

And some members of staff donned green wigs and T-shirts to take part in a Miles for Macmillan cycling event to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The new store, in a former carpet shop, boasts all the usual services provided by Boots, including a pharmacy, consulting room and prescription delivery service.

Darren Parfitt, manager of the shop, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming customers into the store for all their health and beauty needs.”

Boots has three branches in Corby, including one in the town centre.
