Katie Ball signed the lease for her new store, The Iron Lady, on Saturday, May 4, her 27th birthday, and the shop opened two weeks later.

Mrs Ball, who is married to Gavin, and has two children, had the idea for her new business when she was ploughing through a family ironing pile last September.

She said: “I stood there ironing and phoned Gavin and said ‘that’s it, I’m starting an ironing business’.

“I bought a £10 mobile phone, placed a free ad and 28 days later received my first call. From then on, it really took over and one day a client asked if I knew anyone who did cleaning, so I said I would do that too.

“By January I employed three staff. The business has grown so much I decided to open up the shop next to Sarah’s hairdressers in Newton Road.”

People can drop their ironing off and pick it up, or use the free collection and delivery service.
