HELPING a friend in her sweet shop was the catalyst for Julia Hornbuckle to open her own.
Julia said: “I helped her for a year and really loved it. When I left I missed the contact with the customers so my husband suggested I open my own shop.”
Sweeties and More, in Brook Street, Raunds, opened at the beginning of April and has proved a hit with young and old alike.
It stocks more than 300 different varieties of sweets as well as a small range of gifts.
“I stock sweets that I knew would sell well from my previous experience,” said Julia.
If customers request a sweet she will try and find it, recently buying some dandelion and burdock bottles for a customer.
Julia said: “I’ve had tremendous support from my family and friends, who encouraged me to set up the shop, and a really warm welcome from people in Raunds.”
She funded the shop from her own savings, after going over her proposal with an accountant, and has taken out a long lease on the shop, as she is determined to make it a success.
“I’m not going to offer my sweets online, I want to concentrate on being very much a local sweet shop, and am happy to give sweet hampers to local schools, groups and charities to help with their fundraising,” she added.
