A pub in Northampton which will reopen tomorrow is to offer haircuts to its patrons.

The Cuckoo’s Nest – formerly the HQ – will open its doors in Great Russell Street, The Mounts, on Friday at 6pm following a period of closure.

As well as a special noodles-based menu, darts and a variety of live music, there will also be a barbershop.

The barber will be based there most mornings on a walk-in basis and, although focusing on men’s hair, will do women’s cuts too.

New landlady Breda O’Connor, who was in charge of the Spread Eagle in Wellingborough Road until last February, said she was keen to try some quirky ideas to bring in extra custom and emphasised that the pub will be family-orientated following a drugs raid at the premises in March which led to its closure.

She said: “We are totally anti-drugs and any illegal substance will not be tolerated on the premises by anyone at any time.

“Me and my husband, Aidan, are looking forward to opening a pub where everyone is welcome to come in and have a good, safe time.”
