Phone firm moves to larger town store

A MOBILE phone giant has pledged to keep its Wellingborough shop open after local councillors stepped in to help keep them in town.

O2 had planned to move from its premises in Silver Street to a larger unit next to McDonald’s but ran into difficulties over planning permission for signs, so the firm started looking at sites in other towns.

Council leader Paul Bell stepped in to help solve the row and now O2 is planing to move into its new home in Market Street from February 16.

O2 franchisee Mark Jones said: “I was devastated when the only option was to look for another unit outside Wellingborough.

“We have a loyal customer base and we did not want to leave the town. We love being in Wellingborough and love our customers.”

The new store will be four times the size of the current one, and will have the latest high tech store design and an O2 Guru bar offering free technical support for any customer no matter what network they are on. A business centre will also open in store.
