Businesses working in the county’s £400m social care and health sector are being invited to sign up to a new e-marketplace.

Northamptonshire County Council has joined forces with employee and customer engagement specialists Grass Roots and Cloud-Buy to create a new web-based marketplace as a one-stop shop for anyone looking choosing or paying for health and support services they need – either by using their own money or a personal budget provided by the council or NHS.

Special events are set to take place in the county for businesses providing such services to register as a company on the web-portal and find out more about how it will work.

Cabinet member for public health and wellbeing Cllr Robin Brown said: “With a growing population the demands on social care and health services continues to grow and therefore we need to fundamentally change how such services are delivered.

“Most people who need support will now be choosing and paying for goods and services themselves either with their own money or a personal budget. This gives people far more control over what support they receive.

“We estimate that the current market for support related services is more than £400m currently and likely to double in the next 10 years. The new e-marketplace we are establishing will bring together all the support-related service providers – making it easier for people looking for such services, goods, equipment, advice and guidance to buy within a one-stop-shop.”

As well as the benefits for customers the new e-marketplace will provide a range of business benefits for suppliers that are registered on it. These include: Promotion of the business to the population of Northamptonshire; enhanced web-visibility through search engine optimisation; improved cash-flow through fewer payment delays and the ability to tap into increasing demand.

The free registration events will be taking place on Monday, March 10, and Friday, March 14, from 8am to midday at Heroes Lounge, Northampton Saints, Northampton and on Tuesday, March 11, and Monday, March 17, from 8am to midday at Kettering Conference Centre.

At the events, as well as being given the opportunity to register for inclusion on the website for free, businesses will also be able to speak about the design of their web-presence on the e-marketplace.
