Neighbours are up in arms with Anglian Water after a burst water pipe left a woman’s garden under water and confusion over liability.

Anne Garvin, of Clarke Close, was left with a flooded garden after a pipe under her neighbour’s garden burst two weeks ago. Anglian Water initially told her that it was the responsibilty of her neighbour, Diane Richardson to fix the pipe.

But the firm now says it is the responsibilty of several other homeowners who are actually served by the pipe.

Mrs Garvin, 58, said she believed the water firm should carry out the work, adding: “I’m not happy about it but I just don’t know where to turn. This also happened two years ago and my neighbour had the pipe fixed. But, I don’t see the point of someone paying for it when it’ll probably just burst again as soon as we have a cold turn The water covers my garden and is coming up to the foundation of my house, I’m worried if it continues it could damage it.”

Neighbour Jason Dallolio, 40, who is one of the residents told he is responsible for the repairs, said: “The way the water board has handled it is totally shambolic, they have created real confusion.”

Antony Innes, from Anglian Water, said: “Unfortunately there is very little we can do to help. As the pipe serves more than one property, it is the owners of those properties who share responsibility for its maintenance.”
