Council’s ‘innovative’ plan to create 26 permanent jobs

Councillors have voted to create 26 permanent jobs.

Members of Corby Council’s One Corby Policy Committee have agreed to restructure and increase staff at Corby’s Direct Labour Organisation, which will see the creation of 26 permanent jobs.

In addition, they plan to create three apprenticeships in a variety of trades.

The council says the decision will improve performance in housing repairs and housing projects, and across a range of other council services.

Leader of the council Tom Beattie said: “The appointments will be made in the coming weeks.

“At a time when other local authorities are cutting back we have shown an innovative way of creating new positions by reducing our dependency on agency staff.

“We are urging other employers to do the same because permanent members of staff feel more secure and as a consequence are more economically active.”
