Bus services in Thrapston and Raunds will be extended as part of a series of timetable changes, Stagecoach Midlands has announced.

The X46/47 service will now run beyond the High Street in Thrapston to serve the residential area along Oundle Road in the town.

The route will also be standardised in Raunds so that buses run along the same roads in both directions.

This will mean buses coming from Northampton and Wellingborough will run from Stanwick Road, London Road, Marshall’s Road, The Square, High Street and Brick Kiln Road.

Tony Simmons, Stagecoach’s Northampton operations manager said: “We are aware that people living in Thrapston currently need to walk through from Oundle Road to the High Street in order to use our popular X46/X47 service, this extension will shorten passenger’s journeys, making it even easier for them to use the bus.

“The route change in Raunds means that it is now simpler for people to understand the route without buses going a different way through the town depending on whether they are travelling to Wellingborough and Northampton or returning and most importantly it allows people to get a bus back to where they boarded without needing to walk.”

In Northampton town centre routes 5 and 17 will also be altered to avoid congestion, running along York Road in both directions rather than running via St Giles Street and the Drapery towards the town centre.

Evening journeys on route 7 will be extended beyond Talavera Way to provide an evening service to Moulton Park Industrial Estate and route 14 will change to run in a clockwise loop in East Hunsbury.

There will be a number of minor timetable changes to help maintain and improve punctuality with Stagecoach claiming some journeys will move by about three to five minutes on the following routes:

5 – Northampton to Weston Favell and Southfields

7 – Northampton to Moulton Business Park and Northampton University Campus

8/89 – Northampton to Towcester, Brackley, Bicester and Milton Keynes

14 – Northampton to East Hunsbury

17 – Northampton to Weston Favell and Bellinge

D3 – Northampton to Daventry

X46/X47 – Northampton to Wellingborough, Higham Ferrers, Raunds and Thrapston
