The medals of a First World War medical hero are to be auctioned off in Suffolk later this month.

Lt Hubert Harris, of Burton Latimer, was killed on July 31, 1917.

He was in the Royal Army Medical Corps. Earlier in the Great War he had been wounded.

Lockdales, the auctioneers of Martlesham, near Ipswich, have Lt Harris’ medals, a Star Trio.

They will go under the hammer on Saturday, January 23, and have a catalogue guide price of £240 to £260.

He is buried in the Bleut Farm cemetery in France.

Auction Manager James Sadler: “Being an Army medical man on the Western Front was just as dangerous for them as it was for the soldiers they treated.

“To emphasise this, the first two recipients of the Victoria Cross after the 1914-18 War, were from the Medical Corps.
