A burglar who stole Christmas presents and was caught with the help of a police dog has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Darren McGregor, 30, of Hatfield Close, Corby, was sentenced today (Wednesday, August 29) at Northampton Crown Court after pleading guilty to the offence which took place on January 4.

McGregor was arrested after the burglary thanks to police dog Luke, who is nearly three years old.

Officers attended the scene of the crime and arrested one man and Luke followed the trail and located two further men, one of whom was McGregor.

The two other men were sentenced separately in February after admitting the offence.

Luke’s handler police officer Ben Lindley, said: “This was a good result for us. Thanks to Luke we were able to track the offenders and recover the items that had been stolen from the property.”
