County council leader Jim Harker toured Desborough’s Cheaney Shoes with its managing director William Church and employee Pat Helps.

The firm has benefited from INV-ENT, a county council scheme aiming to boost growth by giving small businesses the chance to claim a business rate rebate. Cheaney used its £12,800 to buy new machinery.

Cllr Harker said: “Our scheme allows us to use a relatively small amount of public investment to make an enormous difference to businesses in the county.”
