Bomb experts have been called in to deal with an unexploded grenade dug up in a garden in Rushden.

Bomb disposal experts went out to the property in Ealing Terrace, near Spencer Park in the town, at 12.45pm today (Thursday) after the device was discovered.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police, which has set up a safety cordon around the area, said: “We had a call at 12.45pm to a report of what is believed to be an unexploded grenade dug up in a garde.

“The EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) are in attendance and are doing an assessment.

“We don’t believe there’s any threat to the public but we have a cordon up to keep people safe.”

The spokesman added that no-one has been evacuated and they hope the situation will be resolved shortly.
