A group of slimmers are celebrating losing 38 stone to help a little girl with a tumour.
The 70 slimmers from Wellingborough chose to take part in a sponsored slim to raise money for Because Of Beau.
Beau Smith, two, is the daughter of one of the members of the Slimming World group which meets at All Saints Church Hall each week.
When the group signed up to the national Slim For Good campaign to lose weight as well as help a good cause, they chose Beau.
The youngster had regularly attended the group with her mum Emma, so when she was diagnosed with haemangioma, a type of cancerous tumour, the group wanted to support her in any way they could.
Amie Craddock, who runs the group and has lost six stones herself since joining, said: “Supporting a worthwhile cause like Beau’s has given everyone a special focus and real commitment to their weight-loss goals.
“For many members being sponsored has been a great way to kick-start their weight loss and for others it’s been a boost to keep them on track.
“At Slimming World we pride ourselves on the care and support we give to each other to lose weight, so when members started talking about raising money for Because Of Beau and what we could all do together, there really was no stopping us.
“I’m so proud of what the members in the group have achieved during the last six weeks.”
Amie hopes the group’s success will inspire other people in the area to lose weight and try to improve their health.
She said: “Six weeks doesn’t sound like a long time, but in that time I’ve seen so many changes, people losing weight, feeling happier and healthier than ever, and their confidence increasing.”
Anyone wishing to join the group can go along on a Friday morning at either 9.30am or 11.30am.
The group meets at All Saints Church Hall in Midland Road, Wellingborough.
Mum’s thanks for support
The efforts of the Wellingborough Slimming World group have helped raise money for the family.
Mum Emma said she was over the moon with the £250 raised by the group’s sponsored slim.
She is hoping to put the money towards giving Beau a holiday, which she says she really deserves.
Emma is hoping they can take her somewhere where as a family they can relax and enjoy time together without the stresses of hospitals, appointments and tests.
