Pupils at Wellingborough School took part in a balloon release to raise awareness of a Macmillan Cancer Support charity appeal.

Charlotte Fordyce, 19, and her brother Toby, 17, from Earls Barton, organised the event to raise awareness for the £1.55m appeal to fund a new blood cancer treatment unit at Northampton General Hospital.

Some 200 green balloons were released into the sky at the event at Wellingborough School as part of a business initiative being undertaken by the pair, known as the Rise To Challenge.

Charlotte said: “We decided to get involved in the scheme because we thought it would be good business experience for us both. We chose to base our campaign on Macmillan Cancer Support as we have personal connections with the charity and our family has always supported it.”

The pair’s mother, Sally Fordyce, is a member of the Wellingborough and Rushden Macmillan Cancer Support fundraising committee.
