A member of the Royal British Legion has been presented with a gold badge for giving almost 20 years of service to the organisation.

Brian Walker, who joined the Finedon, Irthlingborough and District branch in 1995, was handed the award by the RBL’s national director general, Chris Simpkins, at a presentation on Thursday, March 6.

Mr Walker has been branch chairman since 1999, and was also branch standard bearer until 2004.

He is currently in charge of its annual poppy appeal and various fundraising events which coincide with the appeal.

He also holds a number of positions – including that of treasurer – in the Royal British Legion in the county, and helped organise, and then participated in, a 90-mile march across Northamptonshire which was held to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Royal British Legion in 2011.
