Pupils were given an inspirational talk by Commonwealth Games 200 metres gold medallist Leon Baptiste.

The athlete paid a visit to Lodge Park Technology College, Corby, where he spoke to more than 500 students from Years 9 to 12, who are studying PE for examinations.

School assistant head of PE Ben Armstrong organised the visit.

He said: “The students really enjoyed meeting Leon who took the time to chat and sign autographs. The visit was very aspirational and gave young athletes the inspiration to carry on working hard to achieve their goals.”

The visit was organised as part of Sky Sports Living for Sport scheme, an initiative using sports stars to improve the lives of young people across the UK. Olympic hopeful Leon, 26, is a sprint runner who specialises in the 100 metres and 200 metres events.

He became the 100m European junior champion in 2004 and won his first major title six years later by taking the 200m gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
