Safer Community Team officers in Kettering executed three Misuse of Drugs Act warrants in the town within the space of five days.

In Laburnum Crescent last Wednesday, December 19, a police dog handler attended an address following reports of a strong smell of cannabis in the vicinity.

Cannabis was located in a rear bedroom and cannabis was being cultivated in cupboards downstairs and in the front bedroom. A 23-year-old local man has been charged with drugs offences.

On Saturday, December 22, during the arrest of a man for failing to attend court in connection with an assault, cannabis was discovered in a bedroom of a second floor flat in Oxford Mews, Rothwell. A 53-year-old man local man was subsequently charged.

And yesterday (Sunday, December 23), an officer on a missing person inquiry reported smelling cannabis while in the area of Yarwell Court, Kettering.

An out-of-hours warrant was executed at a property in Yarwell Court and a 24-year-old man of that address was arrested and charged with drugs offences. A total of 25 cannabis plants were found within the address.

PC Sarah Bertram, of the Kettering Safer Communities Team, said: “These arrests and charges are the result of some excellent work by members of the Safer Community Team in Kettering.

“Drugs fuel both crime and anti-social behaviour in our communities and it is something we are determined to deal with as pro-actively as we possibly can.”
