Almost 7,000 Northamptonshire people are sitting on cash prizes worth thousands of pounds without realising.
Premium Bond prizes worth a total of £320,200 are waiting to be claimed by 6,852 people in the county, according to National Savings & Investments (NS&I).
NS&I has launched a nationwide search to track down the winners – as recently as October two people in Northamptonshire won £25,000 each.
Nationally there are about 900,000 prizes waiting to be claimed including three worth £100,000, with about £44m still to be collected.
NS&I said the most common reasons for prizes being unclaimed include the owners not telling them when they move house, or people who have been given them as children and then forgotten about them.
Premium Bond prizes are drawn monthly and it is estimated more than a third of the UK population has one, with about £45bn invested.
Prizes are kept until the bond owner is found, with the oldest unclaimed prize dating back to 1957.
Operations manager at NS&I Jill Waters said: “It is likely the winners of the £100,000 prize are unaware they have Premium Bonds.”
