A rallying cry has been made by the people of Stanwick as they try to secure votes to win £50,000 to create an allotment and community garden.

The parish council-led initiative, Stanwick Outdoors, has reached the final stages of ITV’s People’s Millions competition and will compete on TV in a public telephone vote against another project on November 25.

A television crew was in the village last week to film residents as they made their appeal for votes, which will be aired on the day of the public vote.

Youngsters from Stanwick Primary School are also backing the bid and potted up some pumpkin seeds to help with the filming.

Voting starts at 9am on November 25 once the telephone number for voting is published in the Daily Mirror, on www.peoplesmillions.org.uk and advertised by the Stanwick Outdoors group in person, online and via social media.

The result will then be announced on the early evening ITV Anglia West News the following day.

Parish clerk Jenny Hodgson has been working hard to generate support in the village.

She said: “I believe we can do this, it’s a very good project.

“People can see the reasons for backing this and it will be a great asset for the village. We hope the people of Northamptonshire can get behind us and vote for us on November 25.”

Parish council chairman Amanda Michel said: “Stanwick has grown by 30 per cent in the past few years and there is a high demand for allotments, but we currently have no community growing facilities at all to offer.

“We need people to vote for us to turn this patch of rough grassland into a vibrant community facility.”

The money will be used to provide a safe off road access, car parking, water supply, fencing, raised beds for those with restricted mobility and seating in the social area.
