Nimble-fingered, Travelodge Hotel manager, Andrea Warner, has set a brand new world record by making a king size bed in 74 seconds – after honing her technique making 120,000 beds.
To celebrate the official opening of its 60th hotel in London, the Travelodge chain marked the occasion by hosting an event to set a brand new Guinness World Record for the ‘Fastest Bed Making By An Individual’
Taking the challenge was Andrea Warner, 41, who has worked for Travelodge since 2001 at the Wellingborough Travelodge.
To fulfil the guidelines set by Guinness World Record officials, Mrs Warner undertook the challenge in the hotel’s Bar Café area with an audience of 200 people which included Kit Malthouse, the Deputy Mayor of London for Business and Enterprise.
Mrs Warner said: “Not in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would set a brand new Guinness World Record. I love my job and I take great pride to ensure all the beds in my hotel are immaculately dressed for each customer. Making a bed is second nature for me.
“My personal best for making a bed is just 58 seconds but it was not an officially recorded effort. Making a bed in front of crowd of 200 people is very nerve racking but I am ecstatic to have set a brand new Guinness World Record for making a king size bed in 74 seconds.”
She added: “I hadn’t felt I needed too many practice attempts as I’ve been making beds for 12 years. In the end I did a couple of rehearsals but they didn’t go very well - I was so nervous I actually put the sheet on the wrong way round.
“I completed those practice runs in about 90 seconds and thought ‘oh dear’ because I knew I could do better - I just hoped I would perform when it mattered.”
The world record attempt was adjudicated by three official timekeepers from the Amateur Football Alliance with four independent witnesses and stewards. Andrea dressed the king size Travelodge Dreamer bed in 74 seconds by fitting a sheet on the mattress, covering a king size duvet with cover and fastening six poppers and then placing the duvet over the sheet, covering two pillowcases and placing the pillows on the bed, and adding a bed runner over the duvet.
Currently there is no record held for the fastest bed making by an individual for a king size bed. In 2011, Premier Inn claimed to break a world record by dressing a king size in 95 seconds however this attempt was not officially recognised by the officials at Guinness World Records.
The only record Guinness World Record hold within their bed making category is held by Wendy Wall from Australia who made up a single bed in 28.2 seconds on November 30 1978.
Mrs Warner added: “I am sure somebody will eventually challenge my record and if they beat it I would love to have another go to get my time even lower.”
Thanks to her reputation as a speedy bed dresser Mrs Warner said her friends often ask her to make their beds for them.
She added: “I don’t mind making my friends’ beds for them because it is torture watching them do it, they just take so long.”
