A GOVERNMENT alcohol strategy has been welcomed by a senior police officer in the county.
In the face of a rise in violent crime in Northamptonshire during the last year, Chief Superintendent Paul Fell will be overseeing the police force’s drive to reduce violence offences across the county in 2012/13.
Ch Supt Fell believes that a range of issues need to be addressed if alcohol-related crime and disorder in our town centres and violence offences within the home are to be reduced.
He said: “I welcome the new alcohol strategy, which potentially presents a good opportunity to set in place a series of measures to address alcohol-related criminality and disorder.
“The abuse of alcohol, or over indulgence in alcohol, has a serious effect on violence.
“And although much has been made of the possible introduction of minimum pricing for alcohol, I believe that a lot of other factors need to be looked at if we are to get these figures down.”
